The Geisha Process

I was lucky enough to be invited to participate in this show next month at The Showroom Gallery on 2nd Avenue in NYC, which is owned by Toy Tokyo (the makers of the Geisha). I got my 12″ Geisha a few days ago and spent a while looking at it… Waiting for it to speak to me…

Here we go:

Step 1: Washed and ready to go.

Step1

Step 2: Cut off eyes. I need a smooth surface for my painted face.
(Some light sanding of eye area not pictured)

Step 2

Step 3: Base coat of gloss black

Step 3

Step 4: Painting on white areas

step4

Step 5: Hair. I practiced on some scrap wood that had the same black paint on it to get a feel for the brush and paint and to figure out exactly what I wanted to do.

Step 6: Paint the cuffs. I got started on this part but it was around 1:30 a.m at this point so I stopped.

step6

Step 7: Got sidetracked by some other projects but added face and some more cuff work. Probably one more session to go.

Step 7

Finished: Cuffs and red trim.
